  • In Judaism, the anniversary of a date of passing holds particular significance. On a Yahrtzeit the soul is at its greatest strength and fullest glory. Propelled by the good deeds of friends and family, the soul is elevated to higher spiritual heights, drawing even closer to God. Souls use this opportunity to intercede on behalf of their families and friends, protecting them, and advocating for their happiness, health, and spiritual growth.

Some of the most important observances for a Yahrtzeit include:

Memorial Candle: It is customary to light a 24-hour Yahrzeit candle at sunset, the beginning of the Yahrzeit. Our congregation values the memory of our loved ones who have passed and invites you to visit our offices where we’d be happy to provide you with a Yahrtzeit candle.

Kaddish: It is customary to attend Synagogue services where Kaddish can be recited. Saying Kaddish helps the soul of the deceased in its continuous upward journey.

***We do not always have a Minyan. If you need a Minyan for Kaddish, we will do our best to reach out to members of our community to try and ensure one is present. Please contact Rabbi Yisroel at 919-651-9710 or [email protected] to request a Minyan.***

Charity: Charitable contributions are encouraged as well, not only to honor the memory of a loved one, but to perpetuate it in the values and traditions we hold dear. Consider making a donation to Chabad of Cary in memory of your loved one, by clicking here.
