I always enjoy helping people in the community affix Mezuzos on their homes. It's a good opportunity to visit families at home and doing the Mitzvah brings with it the good feeling that there is yet another Mezuza in Cary. Putting up a Mezuza yesterday felt even more special, because this week's Torah Portion discusses the Mezuza.
While standing at the open door, affixing the Mezuza, the following thought came to mind:
Whenever we step out of the door, we make the transition from private person to public citizen. It’s then that we encounter most of our challenges, from all sorts of temptations to conflicting cultures.
The Mezuza tells us that the message of the Shema applies both inside and outside. And by glancing at the Mezuza -both when we enter and leave the house - we can remember that wherever we go, we take our G‑d, Torah, values, and traditions along with us.
